This documentary is about Pakistan’s blasphemy law.

PART ONE

PART TWO

The history and application of blasphemy laws, as well as the groups who are victimized by it, and those who benefit from it, becomes clearer…

The penal code of 1860 carried 4 sections laws related to offences against religion were enacted to diffuse communal tension in the multi religion society in subcontinent. Anyone voluntarily disturbing religious ceremonies was punished.

The Zia govt passed an ordinance in 1980 in Pakistan, to insert section 295-A, 295-B, 295-C, 298-A, B, C known as blasphemy laws.

Between 1986 and 2005:

376 Muslims (50%) were charged under the blasphemy law.

263 Ahmadis (35%), 89 Christians (12%), 12 Hindus (2%) and 06 Unknown (1%) were charged under this law.

Therefore, Pakistani authorities charged 647 people with offences under the blasphemy laws between 1986 and 2007, and fifty percent of the people charged were non-Muslim.

Some of those charged were murdered.

Those who are accused of blasphemy may be subject to harassment, threats, and attacks. Police, lawyers, and judges may also be subject to harassment, threats, and attacks when blasphemy is an issue.

Those accused of blasphemy are subject to immediate incarceration, and most accused are denied bail to forestall mob violence.

It is common for those accused of blasphemy to be put in solitary confinement for their protection from other inmates and guards.

Like those who have served a sentence for blasphemy, those who are acquitted of blasphemy usually go into hiding or leave Pakistan.
